Man United may struggle to appoint Premier League manager as Amorim’s replacement
Speculation continues to surge over who will take the reins at Manchester United should Ruben Amorim be relieved of his duties, and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola has emerged as one of the targets.
United are currently under mounting pressure. Their recent 3–1 loss to Brentford has only added to the scrutiny facing Amorim, whose future with the club has been cast into doubt.
The Red Devils are reportedly reluctant to dismiss him straight away, partly due to the estimated £12 million cost attached to terminating his contract early, but the club hierarchy have already begun laying the groundwork for alternatives behind the scenes.
Man United shortlist options to replace Amorim
The early contenders for the United job are Oliver Glasner of Crystal Palace, free agent Gareth Southgate and former Barcelona manager Xavi has emerged as a surprise candidate.
Along with all these managers, Iraola has impressed the United hierarchy with how he has been able to change the fortunes of Bournemouth with limited resources.
Yet Iraola’s contract situation gives his current club some leverage. His deal at Bournemouth is set to expire at the end of this season, leaving him vulnerable to approaches.
Andoni Iraola one of the targets on United’s shortlist
According to talkSPORT, the Cherries are working hard to secure a new deal for Iraola to make it difficult for United to appoint the manager.
Iraola’s name is being seriously floated as a successor at Man United, and with his contract expiring, he is indeed vulnerable to a high-profile approach. But Bournemouth aren’t standing idly by, they are intent on renewing his deal to prevent a loss.
At the same time, United must navigate not only the financial and structural concerns of replacing Amorim but also the hurdles they may face in appointing their top target.
The next few weeks could prove to be decisive regarding the future of Amorim and who replaces him at Old Trafford if he is sacked.
