Man United announce September's Player of the Month nominees, including struggling star
Manchester United have named Bruno Fernandes, Patrick Dorgu and Benjamin Sesko nominees for September’s Player of the Month award.
Bryan Mbeumo won it last month, beating centre-backs Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt.
Fernandes started the month with a poor performance in the defeat at Manchester City, but was superb in the 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford.
He scored United’s first goal in the game, jabbing the ball past goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen to net his 100th goal for the club. He was named man-of-the-match for his performance.
However, he was disappointing in the 3-1 defeat at Brentford on Saturday, missing a penalty to level the scores for the Mancunian giants.
Dorgu, like most of his colleagues, endured a terrible game against Man City but stood out in the victory over Chelsea.
He registered his first assist for United, heading the ball down, allowing Fernandes to score.
Likewise, he was involved in the second goal – his header was poorly cleared by Reece James, and the resulting chance was converted by Casemiro.
His cross also led to Sesko’s goal against Brentford, capping a brilliant month for the Danish youngster.
Sesko’s nomination is surprising as he had no standout game this month. Besides his goal against Brentford, he had minimal impact against Chelsea and was poor in the defeat to Man City.
Fans can now vote for their preferred candidate on the club’s official website, with the winner to be announced on Thursday.
Man United have had a terrible month, losing two and winning one of their three games, putting more pressure on manager Ruben Amorim.
Amorim will be hoping for improved results next month. They host Sunderland and Brighton & Hove Albion, sandwiched between a trip to arch-rivals Liverpool.
