NFL Writer Makes Stance Clear On Patriots’ Rhamondre Stevenson
New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson has quickly become a polarizing figure among Pats fans. After a disastrous performance in Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers — in which Stevenson fumbled twice, including once on the goal line — the idea of Stevenson carrying on as a featured back for New England does not sit right with some people.
One of those people happens to be Patriots writer and Pats-Planet.com’s founder Scotty B, who didn’t shy away from expressing his thoughts on Stevenson on Monday, arguing that Stevenson should be benched for New England’s Week 4 matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
“Imagine putting him out there next week and he fumbles again,” he said. “What would that do to you as a coach (and) your reputation? You have to bench him for that Panthers game … send a message, even Rhamondre would understand that one.”
“He’ll probably be surprised if he’s out there next week,” Scotty B continued. “I’m not gonna go as far as to say, ‘Cut (him).’ No, that’s silly. But you definitely cannot play him. And he can’t be a (RB1) if you’re gonna actually play him.”
After leading all NFL running backs in fumbles in 2024 with seven, Stevenson’s two so far in 2025 are tied with Derrick Henry as the most in the league yet again.
Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has said that New England will place an extra emphasis on ball security with Stevenson in practice, which could suggest that Vrabel isn’t strongly considering removing Stevenson from the offensive game plan.
