AHEAD OF THE GAME: Sutton United (H)

Woking vs Sutton United
Enterprise National League
Tuesday 23rd September 2025
19:45 Kick-Off

Woking will hope to return to winning ways as they face a team currently below them in the table for the first time this season with the visit of Sutton United.

Saturday’s defeat to Forest Green saw the Cards struggle to break down a strong defence and there is a possibility that Neal Ardley may shuffle his squad by including the likes of Timmy Akinola and Chin Okoli in the starting eleven, both of whom were restricted to the bench at the weekend.

Since the thrashing of Gateshead, Woking have failed to score at Yeovil and against FGR, so a win is much needed as well as some goals to boost confidence and pull the Cards away from the embryonic relegation zone.

Opposition Watch

Such was the praise for Steve Morison’s recruitment at Sutton in the summer that they were being talked up as ‘dark horses’ by many, with the only scalp on their recruitment being the sale of Will Davies to Fleetwood Town, who netted twenty times in all competitions.

Needless to say, for whatever reason it hasn’t worked out and now Sutton find themselves at their lowest ebb since first being promoted to this league in 2016. Morison paid for his job after just one win, amazingly coming against Carlisle, but concerning scorelines including shipping four at FGR and seven at home to Fulham Academy in the National League Cup brought his near 20 month reign to an end.

Not many teams can claim to have a more youthful squad than the U’s, who have just three players in their 30s as Morison brought in several young prospects from the league below, including two from Slough and two from Tonbridge. It might not be surprising to some that the squad has not yet gelled and the U’s are struggling, but with eight defeats in nine, this group are desperate for a morale boosting win.

One to Watch

One of the more experienced faces in the dressing room, 31-year old former Crawley forward Ashley Nadesan acted as the perfect foil for Davies last season whilst on loan from Gillingham, earning a permanent move after eight goals and eight assists last season. Despite firing just once so far this season, he’s a dangerous attacker and will have to be watched by Woking closely.

Also keep an eye out for Lewis Simper, the former Woking loanee has three goals already this season after his breakout season saw him get 13 goal contributions, including a strike against the Cards.
