9/9 duels, 2/2 dribbles, 6 recoveries: £22m Man Utd star went unnoticed with his performance vs Chelsea
Manchester United picked up their second win of the Premier League season after a good showing against Chelsea on Saturday.
The Red Devils went into the contest as potential underdogs, but the scenario changed after Robert Sanchez’s early red card.
United capitalised on the situation to score goals through Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro, but the lead could have been bigger.
Casemiro’s sending off before the break levelled things up. Chelsea were the better side after the break.
The Blues scored through Trevoh Chalobah towards the end, but United held on for a well-earned victory at Old Trafford yesterday.
Bruno Fernandes was deemed the man of the match, but we were particularly impressed with Noussair Mazraoui’s performance.
The Morocco international made his first start of the campaign against Manchester City last weekend where he won several duels.
He was right in the thick of things against the Blues too. The 27-year-old won each of his nine duels and completed his dribbles (2/2).
The former Bayern Munich man also made four tackles and six recoveries for the Red Devils before his substitution in the 64th minute.
Fernandes was handed the man of the match after a fantastic display. The Portuguese playmaker opened the scoring in the contest.
However, Mazraoui was equally as good as Fernandes. He produced another solid defensive shift which probably went unnoticed.
The £22 million-rated star had a top debut campaign despite United’s struggles.
He had a disrupted pre-season this summer due to an injury. His recent return to full fitness assures a reliable presence at right wing-back.
United take on Brentford on the road in their next outing on Saturday. The onus should now be on picking up back-to-back league wins which has not happened since the 2023/24 season.
