Amorim singles out key area Man United must fix following Chelsea victory

0 21

Manchester United edged past Chelsea with a dramatic 2-1 victory at Old Trafford on Saturday night.

An early red card for Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez allowed United to take a 2-0 lead through Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro.

United’s numerical advantage didn’t last long, as Casemiro picked up his second yellow card of the evening just before the break.

Trevoh Chalobah scored a late consolation for the visitors, but the Red Devils held their nerve to secure a crucial three points.

Speaking after the game, manager Ruben Amorim urged his players to be more clinical in front of goal.

He said (via Sky Sports): “I felt the urgency, especially in the beginning of the game. The sending off helped us.

“If you remember the first half, we had so many opportunities three against one, three against two. We have to be more clinical to finish the game sooner.

“With the sending off of Casemiro, you never know what is going to happen so we have to take the chance to kill the game.”

United should have put the game to bed in the first half.

They unleashed nine first-half attempts but could only test the keeper three times.

Bryan Mbeumo went close with a thunderous left-footed strike from range, only to see it sail narrowly over the crossbar.

Patrick Dorgu had multiple opportunities to deliver good crosses, but his final ball still lacked the precision needed at this level.

The Red Devils have found more chemistry in the final third this season, but they have still not been able to convert those chances into goals.

Amorim is right in his assessment that United must be more ruthless in front of goal going forward.
