SEAN CRIGHTON takes Queen’s Park to Dingwall this weekend as eighth meets ninth in the William Hill Scottish Championship.
It’s a rare occurrence with Ross County too as the sides who clash at the Global Energy Stadium on Saturday have only met five times previous this century.
Before that there was a little more history to their matches with County progressing to the senior leagues from Highland League football in the 1990s where they met the Spiders regularly in the old Division Three.
Indeed one of the Staggies’ first tastes of football as a senior side came against Queen’s Park in 1994 and the League Cup – the home side won 3-2.

Last time they met in competitive football there was a familiar face in the opposition hosts – Stuart Kettlewell.
That scenario will be repeated this weekend too with former Queen’s Park head coach Callum Davidson recently appointed to the club as assistant to Tony Docherty.

The Season so far...
After dropping out of the William Hill Premiership via play-off defeat to Livingston, Ross County have not fared as well as their fellow relegated side St Johnstone so far this season.
With just three points from six games the Staggies are last but one in the league table while the Saints top the division.
The two big guns form Sean Crighton’s next two opponents in the league starting with the match in Dingwall where County have not won a league game since March 1.
That, by co-incidence, is the last time the Spiders tasted success – which was also on the road in Kirkcaldy – although both sides did register two wins apiece in the Premier Sports Cup group stage.

There is a long way to go in the league however and while many experts expect County to pick up form, Queen’s Park have been steadily racking up points – perhaps slightly less than their performances have deserved.
Sean Crighton’s side head north in high spirits, with defender Charlie Fox expected to make his 100th competitive appearance if selected.
