Amorim: United are yearning for "aggression" of £35m star, he won't play vs Chelsea
Manchester United will be aiming to return to winning ways against Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Red Devils have had a difficult beginning to the season, picking up only four points from their first four matches.
They were outclassed by Manchester City last weekend, and manager Ruben Amorim will expect a strong display tomorrow.
Ahead of the game, Amorim has confirmed a double injury boost with Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount in contention after respective injuries.
However, the club are still missing the services of Lisandro Martinez. The £35 million-rated star has been sidelined since February after a serious knee injury.
Martinez is not anticipated to return until late October or early November, but Amorim has admitted the club are missing the Argentine’s aggression.
He told Manutd.com: “It’s really important. When you have that injury, you have that time where you recover a lot of things really hard, then there is the boring part where it looks like you don’t go to the next step.”
“We miss a lot Licha, especially in this moment, we miss his aggression in everything he does, we miss him. But he’s always there in every meeting. In training, he sometimes finishes his and stays to watch the training. We need Licha in this team.”
Amorim prefers to deploy a left-footed centre-back on the left side of the back three. He has persisted with Luke Shaw for the league games this campaign, but the England international has been highly inconsistent thus far.
Shaw has been a left-back for most of his career and has lacked the positional awareness of a centre-back. He was partly at fault for all three goals conceded against Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad Stadium last weekend.
Amorim has the option of playing Ayden Heaven, but has been reluctant to trust him due to his inexperience. In our view, the Portuguese should prefer a right-footed solution in Leny Yoro or Noussair Mazraoui until Martinez returns.
Martinez may not feature until after the next international break. Meanwhile, Amorim is walking a tightrope after a tough start to the campaign, including a shock Carabao Cup exit. United must start winning games, or else he could get the sack.
