Man Utd tipped to sign 25yo striker as Zirkzee's replacement

0 24

Manchester United have been named as a potential destination for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic at the end of the season, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (page 21).

The Serbia international was linked with a Premier League move over the summer, but there were no lucrative transfer offers on the table for the Bianconeri to consider.

Vlahovic ultimately stayed with the Turin giants. He has already made a big impression this term, scoring four goals from under 150 minutes in four games in all competitions.

The 25-year-old recently came off the bench to score two goals and provide an assist in the thrilling 4-4 draw against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League at home.

Gazzetta dello Sport now claim that Vlahovic’s future will be away from Turin when his contract expires next summer. It is unlikely that Serie A clubs will be able to afford his wages.

Hence, a move away from Italy could be on the cards. Man United are mentioned as a possible option for the striker. He could replace Joshua Zirkzee, who could leave next summer, having failed to adapt to the demands of the Premier League since arriving from Bologna.

Vlahovic speculation could be agent-driven than United being interested

The Serbian has endured a tough career with the Bianconeri over the past three and a half years. He has been unable to be ever-present due to his tendency to pick up niggles.

The former Fiorentina man has not netted more than 18 goals per season. Vlahovic came with a big reputation after scoring 34 Serie A goals in 2021, but has failed to deliver.

The 25-year-old presently earns a staggering salary of £368,000 per week in the final year of his Juventus contract. It is unsurprising that Juventus are unwilling to discuss a renewal.

Vlahovic’s early-season form has made plenty of headlines. His agent is probably using the same as leverage to secure him a big-club move on a free transfer next summer.

United have been brought into the mix by his representative, but Vlahovic won’t suit their playing style, given their need for a striker, who can high-press opponents regularly.

Keeping Rasmus Hojlund alongside Benjamin Sesko would have been perfect for United, but the former made the decision to move to Napoli on loan after being told he has no future at the club.

Napoli have an option to buy the Dane and are most likely to trigger the clause. If United were to sign a new striker, they require someone who can close down defenders constantly.

Vlahovic is more of a traditional marksman and does not possess that quality. United are unlikely to make a huge outlay on signing-on fees and wages to sign him on a Bosman deal.
