Red Sox Manager Praises Garrett Crochet After Stellar Yankees Outing

Garrett Crochet had a great outing as the Boston Red Sox avoided being swept by the New York Yankees on Sunday.

The Red Sox hosted the Yankees on Sunday Night Baseball, and Boston cruised to a 6-4 win after taking a 6-0 first-inning lead.

Crochet went six innings, allowing three runs and striking out 12 in a great performance. After the game, Red Sox manager Alex Cora praised his ace for his performance and for helping the team avoid the sweep.

“He was locked in from the get-go,” Cora said.

Entering the game, Crochet knew he needed to be on his A-game and to help the Red Sox get back on track.

“Really trying hard to avoid the sweep today against a really good ball club,” Crochet said. “We’ve had some tough series as of late. Obviously, this one, up until today, was going in the wrong direction. So just trying to right the ship. The offense came out in a big way early, and I was just trying my best to maintain that lead for as long as my outing lasted.”

Crochet improved to 16-5 with a 2.63 ERA in 30 starts this season. He signed a six-year, $170 million deal with Boston after the trade from the Chicago White Sox.

Boston is now 82-68 and has clinched a winning season. The Red Sox are holding onto the second Wild Card spot.

Boston will begin a three-game series against the Athletics at home on Tuesday.
