Patriots-Dolphins Inactives: Two Defensive Starters Out

The New England Patriots will be missing two defensive starters for their Week 2 matchup against the Miami Dolphins

Christian Gonzalez (hamstring) and Keion White (illness) were ruled out on Friday, with the former slated to miss his second consecutive game after suffering the injury during the first week of training camp.

Eric Gregory, Efton Chism III, Caedan Wallace and Tommy DeVito will also absent from the first divisional matchup of the season, all remaining inactive for the second consecutive week.

Anfernee Jennings and Charles Woods will make their season debuts, taking over for White and Gonzalez, respectively. It’s not like anyone will be asking them to play at the same level, of course, but they are one-for-one swaps at their respective positions.

The Dolphins will be without both starters along the right side of their offensive line, with right guard James Daniels (pectoral) and right tackle Austin Jackson (toe) both hitting injured reserve this week. Kion Smith and Larry Borom will start in their place.

New England and Miami’s full inactives lists can be found below:

NEW ENGLAND

CB Christian Gonzalez (Hamstring)
EDGE Keion White (Illness)
DT Eric Gregory
WR Efton Chism III
OL Caedan Wallace
QB Tommy DeVito

MIAMI

DT Benito Jones (Oblique)
TE Darren Waller (Hip)
CB Storm Duck (Ankle)
RB Jaylen Wright (Knee)
CB Ethan Bonner (Hamstring)
WR Tahj Washington
QB Quinn Ewers

It’ll be important for the road squad to keep up with their defensive rotations due to the weather in South Beach, which is likely why they elevated cornerback Kobee Minor and linebacker Mark Robinson from the practice squad — with the latter receiving his second consecutive elevation to open the season.

It’s unsurprising to see the home side keep their gameday elevations the same for the second consecutive week, promoting kicker Riley Patterson and running back Jeff Wilson Jr.
