Herron On Joining Hibs & Irish Connections

0 57

Irish youth international Scarlett Herron is "buzzing" to get going at Hibernian Women after joining the Club from Shamrock Rovers!

The 20-year-old defender has made the move to Leith from the League of Ireland Premier Division outfit for an undisclosed fee.

Upon her arrival at HTC, Herron spoke to Hibs TV for the first time to discuss her first impressions of the Club and forming an Irish connection with midfielder Ciara Grant.

"This is a Club with a lot of history," said Herron. "I'm really excited to get going, to meet all the girls and get our first game underway. I'm buzzing to get going.

"Ciara [Grant] obviously texted me during the week as there is a bit of an Irish connection there.

"And obviously, the club has a lot of Irish history. It's a great club to be joining and it's the first professional club for myself as well.

"I'm really, really excited. Buzzing to meet all the girls. But I'd say having the bit of Irish connection in there will help as well."

The defender has earned youth caps at Under-19 level for the Republic of Ireland while impressing with the Rovers in the Irish topflight.

Herron was also voted the 2023 Republic of Ireland Under-19 International Player of the Year for her strong performances in defence for her country.

"I'm a centre-half. Probably a no-nonsense footballer," she explains.

"I've been described as a bit of a Roy Keane sometimes. I think that's probably the main way to describe it.

"I'm just really, really excited," Herron continued. "It's a really tight schedule coming up. A lot of games, thick and fast.

"Really excited to get my feet on the ground, get out on the training pitch and show what I'm about."
