Felipe Melo: ‘Frank de Boer never understood anything about football’
Former Inter midfielder Felipe Melo hits out at his former Nerazzurri coach Frank de Boer, saying that he ‘never understood anything about football’ and that ‘everyone in the locker room couldn’t stand him.’
Former Inter and Juventus midfielder Felipe Melo strongly criticised his ex-Nerazzurri boss de Boer in an interview with Gazzetta.
De Boer coached the Brazilian midfielder in the 2016-17 campaign, but was sacked after just 14 games.
Melo played only four games under the former Netherlands international, and it’s safe to say that he doesn’t have good memories about the Dutchman.
Felipe Melo: Everyone at Inter ‘couldn’t stand’ De Boer
“He never understood anything about football. He’s just not capable,” Melo told Gazzetta.
“He even spoke badly about Gabigol, calling him Gabi-no-goal. He didn’t speak Italian, and everyone in the locker room couldn’t stand him. In fact, he lasted three months and then went on to collect disasters everywhere. Thank God Pioli arrived that year.”
De Boer’s career after Inter
De Boer coached Crystal Palace, Atlanta United, the Netherlands national team and Al Jazira after his short spell at Inter.
Felipe Melo played 38 matches for the Nerazzurri, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
The retired 42-year-old also played for Juventus and Fiorentina in Serie A, collecting 118 appearances in Italy’s top flight.
