Revealed: The reason Milan defender Estupiñán missed Ecuador win over Argentina
Last night, Ecuador shocked South America when they put in a resilient performance to win 1-0 against Argentina in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers, to see themselves finish 2nd in the group table. However, there was a notable absence for Ecuador in the shape of Milan defender Pervis Estupiñán.
Despite playing 85 minutes in Friday night’s 0-0 draw against Paraguay, the new Rossoneri man was not selected for the game against Argentina.
According to what has been reported by Ecuadorian outlet Diario Olé Ecuador, via TuttoMercatoWeb, the former Brighton left-back was left out due to a muscle strain that prevented him from being available. However, it worth noting that the concern is nothing to worry about for Milan, being more of a precautionary measure than anything more serious.
Big boots to fill for Estupiñán at Milan
Estupiñán joined the Rossoneri this summer from Brighton as the Serie A side looked for someone to fill the void left by Theo Hernandez, after the French left-back joined Al-Hilal.
The Ecuadorian was selected as the best feasible option and he joined the club in a deal worth a reported €17 million plus up to €2 million in add-ons.
It has not been the smoothest starts for Estupiñán in Lombardy, with the defender substituted at half-time in the Rossoneri’s 2-1 loss in their season opener against Cremonese, despite assisting his side’s only goal.
The new signing was better in the 2-0 win away at Lecce, playing the full 90 minutes as Massimiliano Allegri’s side picked up their first points of the season.
