Insider: Rehabbing Pitcher ‘Could Be In Play’ For Red Sox Bullpen
With the Boston Red Sox reportedly calling up starting pitchers Connelly Early and Kyle Harrison from Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, one insider is eyeing a potential return to the big leagues for one reliever as well.
Alex Speier of The Boston Globe posted on Bluesky on Tuesday afternoon, reporting that the WooSox were adding pitchers Luis Guerrero, Jack Anderson and Noah Song from Double-A.
The longtime Red Sox reporter speculated that Guerrero (who pitched 13 games for Boston earlier this year) could be an option for the big club during the stretch run.
“Guerrero is still technically on a rehab assignment, but could be in play as a big league option as the Sox continue an open audition for arms in the back of the rotation and bullpen,” Speier wrote.
The Red Sox selected Guerrero in the 17th round of the 2021 MLB June Amateur Draft, and he made his big-league debut with Boston last September.
The 25-year-old pitched 10 innings across nine outings coming out of the Red Sox bullpen in 2024, allowing just one unearned run on six hits with two walks and nine strikeouts. Guerrero had been splitting time between Boston and Worcester early this season before landing on the injured list in June with an elbow strain.
The right-hander has gone 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA over 13 appearances covering 17 1/3 innings pitched in the majors this year.
