Haaland welcomes Donnarumma to Man City after €27m PSG transfer
Manchester City star Erling Haaland has taken the opportunity to welcome Italy captain Gianluigi Donnarumma to the club with a series of posts to his social media profiles over the weekend: ‘Welcome Gigio’.
Haaland welcomes Donnarumma to Man City
Donnarumma left Paris Saint-Germain after four years at the end of the summer transfer window to join Pep Guardiola at Manchester City in a deal worth €27m. The former Milan stopper has put pen to paper on a four-year contract running until the summer of 2029.
“Welcome Gigio,” wrote Haaland in posts on both X and Instagram this weekend.
Donnarumma, during his recent press conference with the Italy national team, said: “I couldn’t wait to join City because they really wanted me, the coach really wanted me, and that made me proud. To be wanted so strongly by the best club in the world makes me proud, but also very emotional and happy.”
Donnarumma was shown the door at the Parc des Princes earlier this summer after failing to agree a new contract extension, which meant that he would have been into the final year of his PSG contract this season, and risked walking away for free in the summer of 2026.
PSG instead opted to sign France international Lucas Chevalier at a cost of €40m plus up to €15m in bonuses. Donnarumma, meanwhile, was removed from the club’s Champions League squad list, despite playing a crucial role in helping them to the trophy just a few months prior.
