Two Saudi clubs now want to sign "perfect" Man Utd star, right decision to stay - opinion

Manchester United had a productive summer transfer window with five signings.

The primary focus was on bolstering the frontline for the 2025/26 campaign.

Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko were signed to strengthen the attack.

Alongside them, defender Diego Leon and goalkeeper Senne Lammens were recruited.

A new centre-back was never on the radar despite the exits of Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans.

The Sun now report that two Saudi clubs have approached Harry Maguire over a transfer.

However, the England international has made it clear that he would only consider a move once his contract with United expires at the end of the season.

In our view, the former club captain has made the right choice for himself and United.

Maguire has made the right decision after Saudi Pro League interest

United manager Ruben Amorim has started the Premier League campaign with a back three of Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Luke Shaw.

Maguire’s only start of the season came in the shock Carabao Cup second round loss to Grimsby Town, where he scored a vital equaliser.

In the league, Maguire is seen as a backup for De Ligt in the middle of central defence, but the scenario could change as the season progresses.

The former Leicester City man could be back in the starting XI if De Ligt picks up an injury or suffers a dip in form at some stage in the campaign.

Maguire is the only experienced specialist centre-back to provide backup, given Ayden Heaven and Tyler Fredricson are at the beginning of their careers, while Lisandro Martinez is injured.

Noussair Mazraoui lacks the positional awareness to operate effectively in the middle of the back three. He is comfortable in the right-sided role.

Hence, it is quite clear that United require Maguire’s services and prefer to keep him despite his contract expiring at the end of the ongoing season.

Maguire has made the right choice to stay as well. With the World Cup coming up next year, playing for United presents the best chance for an international comeback.

He appears out of contention under England head coach Thomas Tuchel, and he could change the German’s stance with his club form in the coming months.

Amorim has previously said that Maguire is ‘perfect‘ while playing with three central defenders. It remains to be seen whether United will extend his stay.
