17yo makes U-turn after removing Man United from Instagram bio

Manchester United youngster Chido Obi is one of the brightest prospects at the club.

The 17-year-old recently sparked speculation about his future after removing United from his Instagram bio, sending fans into a frenzy.

He has now added the club’s name back in, as reported by journalist Nathan Salt.

Obi made his senior debut under Ruben Amorim last season, featuring in the narrow 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur back in February.

He went on to make seven more appearances before travelling with the senior squad on a post-season trip, where he bagged a brace against Hong Kong.

His talent and promise were undeniable, which is why manager Ruben Amorim rewarded him with a place on the pre-season tour of the United States.

Many believed that Obi could have removed the club’s name because of his omission from the first-team squad this campaign.

The teenager has not been named in the matchday squad for any of the four games this season.

This could be very frustrating for the youngster as he has outgrown the Under-18s and deserves first-team opportunities.

Amorim has experimented with Mason Mount as a false nine, while Benjamin Sesko and Joshua Zirkzee have been used off the bench.

Matheus Cunha has also proven capable of leading the line when required, further limiting Obi’s chances.

It leaves the youngster facing a difficult pathway to regular senior football, though time is still very much on his side.

Obi must continue to seize chances with the Under-21s, where he has already scored twice in three Premier League 2 outings this season, including a goal against bitter rivals Manchester City on August 31.

He still has a long journey ahead, and patience will be key as he continues knocking on Amorim’s door.
