NFL All-Time QB Rank No. 22: Ben Roethlisberger

Ranking the top 50 quarterbacks in NFL history…

22. Ben Roethlisberger

Drafted 11th overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2004 out of Miami University (Ohio), Roethlisberger immediately impacted the league, going 13-0 as a rookie starter and earning Offensive Rookie of the Year while leading to a 15-1 record.

In his second season, he became the youngest quarterback to win a Super Bowl (XL) at 23, defeating the Seattle Seahawks.

Roethlisberger secured another ring in Super Bowl XLIII (2008), throwing a game-winning touchdown to Santonio Holmes.

He led the NFL in passing yards twice (5,129 in 2014, 5,129 in 2018) and earned six Pro Bowl nods, with standout years like 2007 (32 TDs) and 2014 (32 TDs, 103.3 rating).

Roethlisberger’s career totals include 64,088 passing yards, 418 touchdowns and 5,440 completions across 249 games, plus 1,373 rushing yards. He holds Steelers records in nearly every category.

Roethlisberger’s playing style was that of a rugged improviser: extending plays outside the pocket, pump-faking to create opportunities and thriving in no-huddle chaos, often compared to a “backyard gunslinger.”

While interceptions (211 career) and off-field issues drew scrutiny, his resilience fueled 165 wins and a first-ballot Hall of Fame case.

But who ranks ahead of Roethlisberger at No. 21 all-time?
