Red Sox Soldiering On Despite Loss To Yankees

The Boston Red Sox failed to complete the four-game sweep over the New York Yankees on Sunday, falling by a final score of 7-2.

The Red Sox pitching staff had a hard time keeping the ball in the ballpark, with six of the Yankees’ seven runs coming via the longball.

Despite the loss, Boston leapfrogged New York in the standings by winning three of four games, taking back the top American League Wild Card spot. They also took the season series and would-be tiebreaker, should it come to that.

Alex Cora wasn’t bothered by the loss.

“Three out of four, that’s the business that we’re in,” Cora said. “Now we gotta turn the page and go to Baltimore.”

The Red Sox went down early on Sunday, but showed signs of life in the sixth inning. They loaded the bases by drawing walks and forcing Carlos Rodon out of the game, before Nathaniel Lowe singled in two runs as a pinch hitter. Jarren Duran struck out with two runners on to end the inning, but the team showed fight after a quiet offensive start to the game.

“Professional at-bats, we’re not gonna stop playing. We didn’t stop playing today again,” Cora said.

The Red Sox look to restart their winning streak when they begin a four-game series against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday.
