Preseason all-Bay Area News Group high school football 2025: Quarterbacks

As part of our high school football coverage to get you ready for the 2024 season, we are rolling out all-Bay Area Area News Group preseason recognition.

Today’s position:

QUARTERBACKS

(Listed in alphabetical order)

Aidan Akery, Willow Glen, 6-0, 180, junior

Blossom Valley Athletic League Santa Teresa-Valley Division MVP passed for 1,317 yards and 11 touchdowns. All-BANG honorable mention selection also rushed for 823 yards and 16 touchdowns. 

Carson Blair, Miramonte, 6-1, 195, junior

All-Diablo Athletic League first-team selection threw for 2,595 yards and 23 touchdowns. Rushed for 321 yards and seven touchdowns. 

Lenox Colvin, Oakland, 5-11, 160, junior

Earned all-Oakland Athletic League first-team honors as a sophomore. Helped lead the Wildcats to an OAL championship game appearance last season.

Andrew Fernandez, Gunderson, 5-11, 160, senior

BVAL West Valley junior of the year threw for 1,354 yards and 15 touchdowns with a completion percentage of 61.8%. Earned all-BANG honorable mention honors in 2024. 

Justin Fung, Palo Alto, 5-11, 155, junior

Completed 62.1% of his passes for 1,920 yards and 15 touchdowns. Was an all-BANG selection as a sophomore. 

Juan Gonzalez, Concord, 5-11, 175, junior

Threw for 1,611 yards and 15 touchdowns and rushed for 335 yards and five touchdowns. Was the DAL Mountain Division MVP and was named to the all-BANG honorable mention team last year. 

Kai Imahara, Wilcox, 6-0, 180, senior

Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division offensive player of the year threw for 893 yards and seven touchdowns and rushed for 595 yards and six scores. 

JaVale Jones, Pittsburg, 5-11, 150, sophomore

Clayton Valley transfer took over midseason and threw for 1,121 touchdowns and 10 touchdowns in six starts as a freshman. Fielding interest from Boston College. 

Brayden Knight, De La Salle, 6-3, 180, senior

Will lead De La Salle as a full-time starter after splitting time last season. Holds an offer from Hawaii. 

Rome Leota-Pritchard, Valley Christian, 5-11, 210, sophomore

Started eight games as a freshman and threw for 908 yards and seven touchdowns. Expected to be full-time starter on a star-studded Valley Christian team. 

Michael Mitchell Jr., Archbishop Riordan, 5-10, 185, senior

Three-star Vanderbilt commit threw for 2,759 yards and 35 touchdowns while completing 66.5% of his passes. Was named the WCAL quarterback of the year last season. 

Elijah Rucker, Oakland Tech, 6-3, 187, junior

OAL first-team selection had an electric arm that led a dynamic Tech offense. Earned all-BANG honorable mention honors last season. 

Michael Sargent, Sacred Heart Cathedral, 6-1,185, senior

Three-star recruit holds offers from Portland State, Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, Nevada, Sacramento State and San Jose State. Threw for 2,855 yards and 26 touchdowns while completing 64.4% of his passes. 

Callum Schweitzer, Los Gatos, 6-2, 200, senior

Expected to be a full-time starter for the South Bay powerhouse after splitting reps last season. Holds an offer from San Jose State. 

Berell Staples, McClymonds, 6-2, 185, senior

Three-star Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo commit earned all-OAL first-team honors. Helped lead McClymonds to a NorCal Division 3-AA title game berth. 

Tyler Winkles, Acalanes, 5-11, 180, junior

Threw for 2,639 yards and 35 touchdowns as a sophomore. Helped lead Acalanes to a NorCal Division 5-AA title game appearance. 

WHO IS ELIGIBLE

Those eligible for all-BANG honors come from leagues based predominantly in Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. The news organization’s high school sports staff chooses the players.
