Sweden manager delivers injury verdict on Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski

0 4

Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski has been out since May with a knee injury and his international manager has given an update on whether he will be fit to compete for Sweden in September.

Dejan Kulusevski has had an unusual Tottenham Hotspur career up to this point. It began in style, as he got off to a brilliant start, completing the perfect front three alongside Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

Since then, Kulusevski has experienced a number of dips and rises in form. Questions were asked of his lack of pace on the ball, but he looked electric during the first half of last season. In January, many would have backed the 25-year-old to be named as the club’s player of the season.

However, Kulusevski began to look like a shadow of his former self as time went on. To make things worse, he was kept out for more than a month after picking up a foot injury in March. This was followed by his knee injury, which continues to keep him out of action.

Dejan Kulusevski will not be back for Tottenham any time soon

Earlier in the month, Thomas Frank confirmed that Kulusevski would be out for a long time. This was backed up by Physio Scout, an injury expert, who said Kulusevski likely suffered a patella fracture, which could keep him off the pitch for up to 10 months.

A new update has emerged from Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson, but it only confirms what has already been revealed about Kulusevski’s injury.

Fotbollsaknalen asked Tomasson whether Kulusevski would be available to play for Sweden next month. He said: “I have had a lot of contact with Kulu; he will not be available. He is injured and is trying to get back. He is doing well, but it is too early.”

Sweden are competing in two World Cup qualifiers next month, where they will take on Slovenia and Kosovo.

Kulusevski may struggle to find his way back into the Spurs team

If Kulusevski does take the maximum time to recover from his injury, he could take time to get back to his best. This alone might be a struggle, but the added competition in the Tottenham first-team squad will make life even harder for the ginger from Sweden.

Mohammed Kudus looks to have claimed the right wing position and he has plenty of time to keep growing in confidence before Kulusevski returns.

The former Juventus man can also play in attacking midfield, but Tottenham are expected to sign a new number 10 before the transfer window ends. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Kulusevski.
