Alex Bregman Has Simple Take On Looming Debut In Red Sox-Yankees Rivalry
The Boston Red Sox have handled the New York Yankees well this season, and that was without Alex Bregman.
With a pivotal series now on tap, Boston will have Bregman for its four-game set at Yankee Stadium this weekend. The series represents an opportunity for the Red Sox to leapfrog the Yankees in the standings and hold the seeding tiebreaker between the teams.
Of course, Bregman isn’t exactly a favorite in New York from his lengthy run with the Houston Astros. He’s far from unfamiliar with the environment at Yankee Stadium, especially if you are persona non grata. He’s yet to face it as a member of the Red Sox, though.
The Red Sox didn’t play the Yankees until June, at which point they played them on back-to-back weekends. They haven’t seen them since. Bregman missed the entire month with a right quad strain, so Thursday will mark his debut in the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry.
Bregman told The Boston Globe he’s “100 percent” ready to take on the rivalry.
“It was tough being out early in the year,” he added, via The Globe. “I’m very thankful to be back.”
Despite being one of the steadier offensive players in recent memory, Bregman actually has had his share of struggles at Yankee Stadium. Across 24 regular season games he has a .207 average and .663 OPS, his lowest career marks at any ballpark he’s played more than six games at.
