Tottenham identify new ‘perfect’ midfield candidate after Eberechi Eze snub, Fabrizio Romano
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur have identified three players as potential targets after Arsenal hijacked their move for Eberechi Eze, but one of them will be very difficult to get.
Until Wednesday, it was widely reported that it was only a matter of time before Eze became a Tottenham player.
However, Spurs fans’ worst fears were realised yesterday when the Gunners made a move for the Crystal Palace star following an injury to Kai Havertz.
According to various reports, Eze has now agreed to join Arsenal after the club agreed to meet the Eagles’ asking price for the attacking midfielder.
Tottenham identify three alternatives to Eberechi Eze
Fabrizio Romano has revealed on his YouTube channel that Tottenham Hotspur are not wasting any time in turning their attention to other alternatives, with Southampton winger Tyler Dibling among the names being discussed at Hotspur Way.
The Italian journalist reveals that Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers is Spurs’ dream target, with the Lilywhites believing that he will be the ‘perfect’ fit for Thomas Frank’s setup.
However, industry sources believe that it will be very difficult to prise Rogers away from Villa Park, with some of the opinion that the deal will be almost impossible.
Romano adds that Tottenham also made contact with Xavi Simons, but the Netherlands international has his heart set on moving to Chelsea.
The transfer expert said: “They started making some calls today to try to understand the situation for new players to add to their squads.
“One of the dream targets they have at Tottenham internally is Morgan Rogers at Aston Villa, but it is seen as a very difficult deal because Villa don’t want to lose the player.
“People in the industry believe that this deal is almost impossible for Morgan Rogers, but I can tell you Tottenham are thinking about him as a perfect candidate.”
Daniel Levy needs to pull something big out of the bag to save face
The way the Eze deal has been hijacked has left Daniel Levy and Tottenham humiliated, and one can understand the anger that is being directed towards the club from fans on social media.
Unless the Lilywhites manage to pull off a special deal, such as the signing of Rogers, this transfer window will go down as a major disappointment.
The club now have just 10 days to save this transfer window, and it is fair to say that Spurs fans are certainly not holding their breath.
