Harry Redknapp claims Tottenham manager sacked by Daniel Levy achieved more than Ange Postecoglou

0 5

Harry Redknapp has backed Daniel Levy’s decision to sack Ange Postecoglou, and he has claimed that a former Tottenham manager achieved even more at the club than the Australian did.

While Spurs fans are now looking forward to the new era under Thomas Frank, they will forever remain thankful to Postecoglou for what he achieved.

The Australian managed to do something that even serial winners like Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte failed to do: deliver a trophy to N17.

The decision to sack Postecoglou was not well received by many Spurs fans, who felt that he deserved an opportunity to build on the Europa League success.

Some sources even claimed that the Tottenham players were angered when Daniel Levy decided to sack Postecoglou, but Redknapp feels that the decision was justified.

The former Spurs manager insisted that the Lilywhites’ performance in the Premier League was unacceptable and forced Levy’s hand.

He told BetVictor: “Finishing fourth from bottom is disgraceful really, wasn’t it? I lost my job after finishing fourth. So, he had every chance of going. We got to the end of the season, and suddenly I was gone.

“Okay, he won the cup, and I won’t disrespect it, but the two English teams in the final were two of the worst teams in the Premier League. It’s a cup competition that an English team should win every year when you look at the quality that’s in it.”

The Australian can always look back on his time at N17 with pride, and he will always be remembered as the man who broke the club’s 17-year trophy drought.

However, Redknapp believes that his achievement at Spurs pales in comparison to what Mauricio Pochettino managed to do by taking Tottenham to the final of the Champions League.

The 78-year-old added: “I wouldn’t compare that to Pochettino’s achievements in getting to the Champions League final. Okay, he didn’t win it, and last year they won a trophy. But Pochettino taking the team to a final in the Champions League for me as a manager would still be a greater achievement.

“It was harder to get to the Champions League final for sure than it is to win that trophy. I’m pleased to have the trophy, but it isn’t the Champions League that’s for sure.”
