PSG leave senior star out of UEFA Super Cup squad in boost for Tottenham

0 0

PSG have made a bold selection call ahead of their UEFA Super Cup meeting with Tottenham, leaving one of their senior stars out of the squad.

Preparations for Tottenham Hotspur’s clash against Paris Saint-Germain are now in full swing, with the game just under three days away.

Paris Saint-Germain will be playing their first match since July, when they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Club World Cup final, a result that brought their rather successful competitive season to an end.

Tottenham, on the other hand, have been kept busy with several pre-season fixtures, which included a 2-0 win over Reading, a 2-2 draw against Wycombe, a goalless draw with Luton Town, a 1-1 stalemate against Newcastle United and, most recently, a heavy 4-0 defeat to Bayern Munich.

Donnarumma omitted from PSG squad for Tottenham clash

Victory will be important for Thomas Frank and Tottenham, who are aiming to secure a second European title in less than three months.

Ahead of the big UEFA Super Cup final clash, Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Paris Saint-Germain have decided to leave Gianluigi Donnarumma out of their squad for the UEFA Super Cup tie against Tottenham on Wednesday, 13 August.

It appears there is a breakdown in relations between the two parties. Romano further reports that no agreement has been reached over a new deal for Donnarumma, who is expected to leave PSG either this summer or as a free agent in 2026. Meanwhile, his camp feels the current situation is unfair to the Italian goalkeeper.

Spurs could take advantage of PSG goalkeeping change

This could prove to be a significant boost for Spurs, given that Donnarumma was instrumental for Paris Saint-Germain last season, with his reflex saves and penalty heroics often rescuing the French champions.

PSG have since moved quickly to bring in Lucas Chevalier, a 23-year-old shot-stopper from LOSC Lille, who is set to make his debut in the Super Cup.

However, Chevalier has yet to play a single match with the PSG squad since their Club World Cup exit, meaning any signs of rust or hesitation could be punished by Spurs, who will need to show precision and cutting edge in the final third if they are to come out on top.
