NBA Buzz: Nuggets Reportedly Sign Ex-Mavericks Wing
The Denver Nuggets have improved their roster around Nikola Jokić this offseason.
With the core of Jokić, Jamal Murray, and Aaron Gordon locked in long-term, the front office went out and injected the Nuggets with more depth.
Denver’s headline-grabbing transaction was the trade that sent Michael Porter Jr. to the Nets for Cam Johnson, who will give the Nuggets a more balanced wing option on both ends.
Denver also reunited with Bruce Brown, a fan favorite from the 2023 championship squad, on a one-year deal. Brown’s versatility as a guard-forward hybrid capable of defending multiple positions makes him an ideal glue guy for a contending team.
Continuing their depth improvements, the Nuggets have now reportedly agreed to terms with a promising young forward who brings shooting and length. HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto was the first to report the news. “The Denver Nuggets and forward Kessler Edwards have agreed to a deal, league sources told @hoopshype,” Scotto posted to X.
“Edwards averaged 4.2 points on 49.6% shooting from the field and 40.7% from 3-point range in 40 games, including 18 starts, for the Dallas Mavericks last season.”
Edwards is entering his fifth NBA season. He’s bounced around a bit since being drafted by the Brooklyn Nets in 2021 out of Pepperdine. Edwards’ most recent stint in Dallas showcased his potential as a 3-and-D specialist, which attracted Denver.
The Nuggets may have experienced a regression after their 2023 championship, but this summer’s activity signals a reloaded squad ready to contend again. With Jokić still at the peak of his powers, Denver cannot be kept off any shortlist of NBA Finals favorites.
