“Liverpool are looking…”: Journalist sheds light on Reds’ pursuit of 24-year-old Premier League ace

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Brentford defender, Nathan Collins.

The Premier League champions are reportedly keeping tabs on the 24-year-old central defender, but journalist Pete O’Rourke has now claimed that they are more likely to make a move for Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. 

Meanwhile, Collins has been linked with Arsenal as well.

Nathan Collins move is unlikely

“It’s a bit of a surprising link, not just because it’s Nathan Collins – he enjoyed a very good season for Brentford last year”, he told Football Insider.

“There’s no doubt Liverpool are looking light at centre-back having sold Jarell Quansah, and the ongoing speculation about Ibrahima Konate’s long-term future.

“As it stands, Marc Guehi is the more likely target due to his contract situation at Crystal Palace.

“I can’t see Brentford letting Collins go, having seen so many other star players leave this summer – he’s just been made captain – I just don’t see how Brentford can afford to let him go.”

Brentford have lost multiple players this summer, and they have lost their manager from last season as well. Yoane Wissa could be on his way out of the club soon. It seems highly unlikely that they will sanction the departure of Collins this summer. 

Liverpool need a defender

It is no secret that Liverpool need a quality central defender. They have sanctioned the departure of Jarell Quansah, and Ibrahima Konate could be on his way out of the club next summer. They need to sign a quality central defender before the window closes. Collins would be a quality acquisition for them. He has shown his ability in the Premier League, and there is no doubt that he is good enough to play for a big club as well. 

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool try and test Brentford’s resolve with an offer this summer. 

On the other hand, gay, he is in the final year of his contract with Crystal Palace, and he could be available for a reasonable amount of money. The player is pushing to leave the club, and he wants to compete at the highest level. The opportunity to move to Liverpool will be quite exciting for him.
