European giants in talks ‘via intermediaries’ for Man United star

According to reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, European giants AC Milan are discussing with Manchester United ‘via intermediaries’ over a loan move for striker Rasmus Hojlund.

Milan are ready to pay a £5.1 million loan fee, plus an option to buy at £39m to secure his signature and are prepared to cover his whole salary during the loan spell.

Hojlund is subject to requirements at United after failing to thrive since his £72m move from Atalanta in August 2023.

With the signing of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, United have now signed two strikers since the arrival of the Denmark international, underlining his struggles at the club.

He was an unused substitute in the pre-season friendly against Fiorentina on Saturday, further raising doubts about his future at Old Trafford.

Milan are in the market for a new striker this summer, with only Santiago Jimenez being their only option for the central forward role.

The Rossoneri seem to be confident that Hojlund can rediscover his best form if he joins the club, having dazzled in the Serie A before his move to United.

However, the 22-year-old wants to stay at Man United and fight for his place, which could be a stumbling block for Massimiliano Allegri’s side in completing the deal.

United may be forced to agree on a deal with Milan if they do not get a more attractive offer for Hojlund.

While the Italian side are not ready to buy him permanently, they could help United reduce their wage bill if a deal is agreed, potentially helping their pursuit of other targets.

After signing Sesko, the Red Devils are exploring the market for a new midfielder and goalkeeper, with Carlos Baleba and Gianluigi Donnarumma being targeted for both positions.

They have discussed a move with Donnarumma and contacted Brighton & Hove Albion for Baleba.
