Aston Villa renew transfer interest in Brazilian midfielder: report

0 5

Aston Villa have been linked with former Norwich City midfielder Gabriel Sara throughout the current summer transfer window and news of their apparent interest has re-emerged.

The Brazilian is noted for his versatility, excelling as an attacking midfielder or as more of a box-to-box profile. The Galatasaray man has tactical intelligence, neat finishing and the ability to play key passes.

Any decision to pursue Sara would likely depend on the fate of Jacob Ramsey, who has been linked with a move away from Villa Park but also with the possibility of a new contract.

Should Ramsey’s unlikely departure happen, Villa’s admiration of Sara could come back to the fore. Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers have all been linked with the 26-year-old.

Galatasaray are not believed to be keen to sell Sara, whose rumoured price tag would be in the region of £30 million.

Galatasaray’s key man

Sara joined Galatasaray in the summer of 2024 and quickly became a key figure in the squad. He plays regularly, racking up 46 appearances in all competitions since his transfer from Norwich and contributing two goals and ten assists.

He was a consistent performer as the Istanbul giants clinched a domestic double ahead of Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Besiktas, both of whom were beaten thanks to his direct contributions in derby matches last season.

Sara played two seasons in the Championship with Norwich after moving to England in the summer of 2022. He played 96 times, scored 21 goals and made another 17 goals in all competitions.

Norwich missed out on promotion in 2023/24, Sara’s second season in Norfolk. They reached the Championship play-offs under David Wagner but were hapless in the semi-final against Leeds United, losing 4-0 in the second leg after a goalless draw in the first.

Led by former Norwich boss Daniel Farke, Leeds were beaten by Southampton in the final at Wembley.
