Red Sox Second Round Draft Pick Off To Hot Start

The Boston Red Sox have recently begun reaping the rewards of identifying and selecting elite amateur players this season thanks to breakout performances from talented rookies such as outfielder Roman Anthony and infielder Marcelo Mayer.

With Anthony batting .276 over his first 47 Major League games and quickly establishing himself as the face of the franchise, the Red Sox’s young core of Anthony, Mayer, Ceddanne Rafaela and Bryan Bello has returned a sense of optimism and enthusiasm to Red Sox Nation that’s been sorely lacking for much of the last half-decade.

That said, the Red Sox farm system has another wave of exciting prospects currently working their way up the organizational ladder. Earlier this week, the team’s 2025 second-round draft selection, Henry Godbout, made his professional debut as a member of the High-A Greenville Drive.

Arriving fresh from the University of Virginia, where he hit .321 with 20 home runs and 122 RBIs over three seasons, the 22-year-old infielder wasted little time making his presence felt at the plate with Greenville. Godbout went 2-for-3 with two singles and two RBIs, while adding three walks to reach base a total of five times during his professional debut.

Godbout remained locked in at the plate during his second game on Thursday, adding another base hit and a walk while also scoring two runs in Greenville’s 7-3 victory. Over his first two games, Godbout is batting .500 with an on-base percentage of .700 in 10 plate appearances.
