Manchester United change transfer stance on out-of-favour duo
Manchester United want to raise funds from player sales before the end of the transfer window.
They are now close to spending £200 million on new signings after an agreement was reached in principle for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.
Forwards Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund are among players United are willing to sell.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, United have now lowered Garnacho’s valuation from £60m to £50m and have raised Hojlund’s from £30m to £40m.
Garnacho has fallen out with manager Ruben Amorim, largely due to his exclusion from the starting line-up for the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur in May.
Amorim has already confirmed the Argentina international’s decision to leave Old Trafford.
Hojlund has failed to impress since joining from Atalanta and has become surplus to requirements based on the imminent arrival of Sesko. United are ready to cut their losses on him.
Chelsea are the favourites to sign Garnacho and have already opened talks with United, but are unlikely to meet his valuation.
Leipzig made an enquiry about Hojlund during the negotiation for Sesko but the Danish star was not keen on joining the German side.
He also has interest from the Saudi Pro-League but prefers to stay in the Premier League or return to Italy.
A return to the Serie A looks more likely with AC Milan and Napoli both credited with interest in him.
United’s decision to change the valuation of Garnacho and Hojlund could be due to the level of interest in them.
Chelsea are the only side making a concrete move for Garnacho, forcing United to reduce his price tag.
By contrast, Hojlund has several suitors, allowing United to raise his fee, hoping to ignite a bidding war.
The two forwards are expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, but their next destination remains to be seen.
