FOUR first half goals set the Queen’s Park Wee Spiders on their way to a home win the the Club Academy Scotland under-17s league.
Dunfermline visited Lochinch on Tuesday evening, but were trailing before the clock struck 7pm as Logan Duffy’s double combined with goals for Glen Cunningham and Joe Lafferty for a convincing lead over the Fife side.
and Lee Mitchell’s side has made a positive start to the new campaign in the new Academy level.
The young side has been knitted together from the under-16s and 15s squads from last term to compete at the new Advanced Youth level and evidence of their understanding on the pitch was clear in the first half with all four goals and some excellent link up play.
And despite hitting four goals the coach reckons his team could have had more – and can raise their standards even higher to extend their unbeaten start to the season.
He highlighted areas of improvement – some of which led to the Pars goals, but all in all was pleased with the display.
Lee said: “It’s really good to get our first league game at home and start it off with a win.
“After the goals in the first half, I think we controlled the second half and probably should have scored more to make the game more comfortable.
“But to be honest, I’m disappointed the way we conceded. Their goals came from us forcing passes and giving away possession. That’s definitely a learning opportunity and something for us to work on – we need to be better on transitions, and we also need to be more patient in possession because I think we caused our own problems.
“Overall, it’s obviously a good result, but we can definitely be better, so it’s important we continue to improve and be more consistent throughout the game.”
Next up for the Wee Spiders is a cross-border friendly with Carlisle United at Lochinch this Saturday. Kick off 12pm.
