Weekend preview: Bassett host Ciren in opening derby
Royal Wootton Bassett Town are set for their opening derby of the 2025-26 season when Cirencester Town visit the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground in Hellenic League Premier Division action on Saturday (3pm kick off). Bassett will be hoping to pick up where they left off against the Centurions last year after securing a season double over their rivals with a pair of single goal victories - including a 3-2 home triumph. However, eligible for promotion again having taken voluntary demotion and a team who finished last season strongly, lifting the Floodlit Cup, Cirencester are a side who many will tip to do well this year. And they will make the journey across the Wiltshire-Gloucestershire border with the aim of taking home the spoils. The first of three home derbies for Bassett this month, it should be an entertaining contest. Admission is £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members. Also on Saturday the Development team travel to Faringdon Town - a side who, like Bassett, will be aiming for a better Wiltshire League Premier Division campaign than in 2024-25 (3pm). On Sunday the Women's First Team return to friendly action as tier five Torquay United visit the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground (AGP, 2pm kick off).
