MLS trolls Necaxa with Cristiano Ronaldo reference after Inter Miami victory and the video goes viral
Inter Miami and Necaxa faced off on Saturday in a thrilling Leagues Cup match filled with goals, intensity, and even some off-field drama. The game ended 2-2 in regulation, with the MLS side eventually clinching the bonus point after a penalty shootout.
Shortly after the match, MLS stirred up controversy on social media with a post that took a jab at Necaxa—and indirectly involved none other than Cristiano Ronaldo. The post, shared on the league’s official X account, went viral, surpassing 1 million views and sparking hundreds of responses.
The MLS post featured three images and the caption “Take the L,” aimed at mocking Necaxa. One of the photos showed Jordi Alba celebrating his penalty goal with a gesture directed at Necaxa goalkeeper Ezequiel Unsaín. The other two images highlighted Ricardo Monreal’s goal celebration, in which he mimicked Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic “Siuuuu” pose—arms extended after a mid-air spin.
Monreal had scored Necaxa‘s second goal in the 80th minute, giving his team a temporary 2-1 lead. His celebration stood out not only for the theatrical flair but also for the context—it took place in Lionel Messi’s home stadium in Fort Lauderdale, adding fuel to the fire in the ongoing Messi vs. Ronaldo fan debate.

Messi’s injury and what’s next
The intensity of the game didn’t come without consequences. Lionel Messi was forced to exit the match in the 10th minute due to a hamstring concern and his status remains uncertain ahead of Inter Miami’s next clash against Pumas UNAM.
On the other side, Pumas will also be missing a key player. Veteran goalkeeper Keylor Navas received a red card in their match against Atlanta United and will be suspended for the showdown with Inter Miami.
With Messi potentially sidelined and Navas suspended, the stakes are high for both teams. The viral MLS post only adds more intrigue to what’s shaping up to be another emotionally charged match in the Leagues Cup.
