Al-Nassr now formulating move to sign £47m United star, Jorge Jesus wants him - report

0 10

Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr are formulating a move to sign Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes, according to A Bola (page 25).

The Portugal international was pursued by Al-Hilal earlier in the summer transfer window, but a transfer did not materialise due to the player’s preference.

Al-Hilal were ready to spend £100 million on his services alongside wages of almost £1m per week.

However, Fernandes was not keen on the transfer and decided to prolong his stay at United.

A Bola now claim that Al-Nassr could make an offer of their own for the playmaker. They have made initial contact with Fernandes as well as United.

The money is not an obstacle for Al-Nassr, and they are unperturbed by Fernandes’ decision to snub Al-Hilal earlier this summer.

Jorge Jesus, who was recently appointed as Al-Nassr’s new manager, appears keen on a reunion with the midfielder whom he handed his debut at Sporting CP in 2017/18.

Al-Nassr believe the idea of reuniting Fernandes with Jesus and Cristiano Ronaldo could be persuasive. Compatriot Joao Felix also recently made the move to the club.

Fernandes unlikely to leave Man Utd ahead of new season

The 30-year-old has been a key player for the Red Devils since his £47 million move from Sporting CP in January 2020.

He had an indifferent start to the previous campaign, but picked up his form during the backend of the season. He finished with a tally of 19 goals and 19 assists from 57 outings.

United finished a lowly 15th in the English top-flight with only 42 points. Without him, the Red Devils could have been right in the mix for relegation from the Premier League.

With Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo joining the ranks this summer, the club have added more creativity in the squad. Alongside Fernandes, they should score plenty of goals and create chances.

The onus is now on landing a marquee striker to support the trio by finding the back of the net regularly.

Fernandes has now been associated with a possible move to Al Nassr, but we believe the Saudi chapter is closed with the season about to begin. The club captain is unlikely to change his transfer stance.

A move could materialise in a year or two if Fernandes wishes for a big payday.
