Watch Roman Anthony Record First Career Walk-Off Hit

The Boston Red Sox had an underwhelming trade deadline. Fortunately, the game is played on the field, and not in the front office.

Fan morale was fairly low headed into the game due to both the trade deadline and the pitching matchup. Cy Young contender Hunter Brown took the mound for the Houston Astros. He was opposed by Cooper Criswell, who had a difficult time climbing the depth chart this season.

Despite the lopsided matchup, Criswell went punch-for-punch with Brown, firing seven innings of one-run baseball. The Red Sox tied the game at one in the seventh inning and found themselves in extra innings once again.

With a runner on third base and one out, Trevor Story gunned down Chas McCormick at home, and the Astros finished the tenth inning scoreless. Ceddanne Rafaela couldn’t execute a bunt, but wound up hitting a swinging bunt to put a runner on third with nobody out.

Red Sox rookie Roman Anthony came to the plate and quickly went down 0-2 against left-hander Bennett Sousa. Lefties were hitting just .122 against Sousa this season, but Anthony found a way to fight back and drive a pitch to center field to beat the Houston Astros, 2-1.

“Just trying to fight. Just trying to find a way to put the ball in play and score a run there,” Anthony said. “We’re resilient. We’re a resilient group of guys. We love each other so much. We have such a great group. We’re so tight.
