Old Clip Of Drake Maye, Micah Parsons Resurfaces After Trade Request

The NFL world was dealt a shock on Friday afternoon when superstar linebacker Micah Parsons requested a trade off of the Dallas Cowboys amid his prolonged contract stalemate with the team. Shortly after the news came out, an old clip of Parsons and New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye resurfaced on social media.

Considering how Parsons is going to require a massive contract extension if the Cowboys decide to trade him, there are only a few teams that could conceivably swing a deal for him. Armed with nearly $60 million in cap space, which is the highest figure in the league, the Patriots are one team that could actually make a trade for Parsons.

Whether or not the front office would want to take this sort of incredibly ambitious swing remains to be seen, but Parsons is the sort of player worth building around on defense. They have the draft capital, the cap space and the need for a star pass rusher, so it’s not a completely absurd suggestion.

The desire for New England to trade for Parsons only increased when an old clip of him and Maye playing ping pong resurfaced on social media. With the two already having an established relationship, fans viewed that as even more of a reason to pursue this trade.

Since entering the league as the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Parsons has been one of the most dominant defenders around. Parsons already has four Pro Bowl selections and two All-Pro First Team honors to his name, and he also took home the 2021 Defensive Rookie of the Year Award.

The Patriots made upgrades to their defense this offseason, but they have no one who comes close to being the sort of player Parsons is. Simply put, he’s a game-wrecker who can take over games on his own, and he fits the timeline of New England’s roster perfectly.

Even when considering the mammoth extension Parsons would command, he’s going to cost multiple first-round picks if Dallas decides to trade him. Based on what he’s done in his first four seasons, though, he may actually be worth that price tag.

While Parsons has requested a trade, there’s no guarantee the Cowboys will end up trading him. However, if their front office does decide to move on from their superstar defender, the Pats should be one of the first teams giving their phone lines a ring.
