MLB Trade Rumors: Red Sox Among Teams ‘In On’ Cy Young Winner
The Boston Red Sox won’t actually trade for Miami Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcántara, right?
The New York Post’s Jon Heyman isn’t so sure about that…
Heyman named four interested teams when issuing a market update on the veteran right-hander: the Red Sox, Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees.
Alcántara, 29, has found himself firmly in the mix to be traded after suffering an elbow injury that kept him out for all of 2024, while struggling on his way to a 6.36 ERA in 2025. Heyman reports that his market is improving, however, as the 2022 Cy Young Award winner hasn’t given up a run in his last two starts and remains under contract through 2026.
The Red Sox would likely need to give up a pretty penny in order to pry him away from some of the other interested teams, but they have more than enough ammunition to do so.
Major League Baseball will give teams until 6 p.m. ET to make something happen on Thursday.
