Top Bruins’ Prospect James Hagens Hints At Professional Plans

Boston Bruins prospect James Hagens may be waiting a little longer before playing in professional hockey.

In an interview with NHL.com’s Mike G. Morreale, Hagens talked about his goals heading into the next college season with Boston College.

“I want to be able to win a Beanpot, be able to win a national championship,” Hagens told NHL.com. “Everyone has their roles, but our team goal is winning. That’s what we want to do. We fell short last year, but it’s hopefully going to happen this year.”

The Bruins’ 2025 NHL Draft first-round pick played on a dominant Eagles team alongside current NHLers Ryan Leonard and Gabe Perreault. Without Leonard and Perreault, Hagens will be a large part of BC’s offense going into his sophomore season.

With the Eagles, he totaled 11 goals and 26 assists for 37 points, which was third on the team.

“The things he does well, he’ll be able to carry and translate for BC but also right into the NHL,” BC head coach Greg Brown said. ” Like any young player going to the NHL, you have to bring your floor up, and that means getting bigger, stronger and faster. But then it’s about the details you need to play with to be successful, and again, that just takes time. He has a great hockey brain. He reads things quickly and clearly, so I think just the evolution of his game will be more of that this year.”

Hagens was impressive during his first development camp in July, showcasing his eagerness to reach the NHL as soon as possible.

While the 18-year-old may not be skating in TD Garden right away with the Bruins, he’ll be just a short drive down the road for Bruins fans to watch in Chestnut Hill.
