Man Utd now aspiring to sign "world-class" 26-year-old star - report

Manchester United could add a new goalkeeper to their squad this summer.

The Red Devils have made three quality signings during the ongoing transfer window.

Matheus Cunha was the first acquisition before the arrivals of Diego Leon and Bryan Mbeumo.

The club are eyeing more reinforcements, and a goalkeeper seems a priority for manager Ruben Amorim.

L’Equipe now claim that United are in the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Gianluigi Donnarumma.

PSG are closing in on the transfer of young goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Ligue 1 rivals Lille.

This could pave the way for Donnarumma’s exit, as his contract is set to expire in the summer of 2026.

Les Parisiens have been unable to strike an agreement over a renewal and could sanction his departure.

Donnarumma would be an upgrade on Andre Onana

Andre Onana is presently out of action after a hamstring injury earlier this month. He has returned to the training pitch, but could play some part during the pre-season tour of the United States.

There is also the possibility that he could be offloaded if United sign a marquee shot-stopper. We have been against the idea of signing Emiliano Martinez due to his age and error-proneness.

On the contrary, Donnarumma would be a much better acquisition and a proper upgrade on Onana. The 26-year-old is blessed with terrific reflexes and can command the box with high claims.

He is also reasonably good with the ball at his feet and completed 71 percent of his passes in the Champions League last term. He has also become error-proof compared to his early days.

The Italian has a strong personality and would be a good fit for the Red Devils. He has a Transfermarkt value of £34 million. United could prise him away for a similar package due to his contract situation.

City may not prove a hurdle for United. They are on the cusp of re-signing James Trafford from Burnley. He is most likely to don the gloves if Ederson were to head for the exit door this summer.
