SWEDISH BEAST ARRIVES, WHAT HAVE WE DONE?
Arsenal only went and did it… they signed Viktor Gyokeres and the powerful Swede is going to be integrated into the Arsenal squad as soon as humanly possible. Not only that, Ben Jacobs reckons Andrea Berta is also moving to close down Eze as the final piece of our BIG summer.
So what have we landed? The top scorer in Europe. Simple as that. He has more than double the goals of anyone in Portugal over the past two seasons. He’s battered Man City in the Champions League. He scores at international level. My view is he’s a blunt force instrument, in his prime, keen to prove to the world he’s not the ‘second-rate striker’ Edu reckoned he was.
What does he have going against him? The narrative in the media has been heavily focused on off-the-ball movement, desire, and goals. All noble elements in a striker’s game, but some might say those are emotional pulls, try-hard elements, and ultimately… who cares if you want to play for Arsenal. I want to play for Arsenal, doesn’t impact whether I have the qualities.
The fact Edu and Ayto thought he was second-rate is either going to be a reminder that it’s better they aren’t with the club… or a nightmare, because if they are right, we have spent a lot of money on someone who won’t have taken us to the promised land. You can’t write off their opinions, they took Arsenal from 8th to second and to a CL semi, they know what they’re talking about, but you can dream for a minute. This moment, right now, anything is possible and the possibility of having the hottest striker in Europe playing like a mini Haaland for Arsenal is delicious.
This signing is all Andrea Berta. The player the data pointed to was Sesko, I heard they ratified that with an outside analysis… but Berta wanted to put his name to Gyokeres. This is kind of defining for the Sporting Director. If he gets it right, the kingdom is his, and Arsenal fans will worship him like a god. My hope, your hope, everyone’s hope, is this signing slaps so hard, Berta is getting GBH complaints to the Met Police.
I’m down with the move. If we have an elite finisher on our books, that’s more than we have in our forward line right now. He can’t not score goals in our system. I want a bully as well. We need someone relentless. I love the idea of having someone who has suffered in their past and is back to England to show the world they can mix it with the big dogs. I wasn’t overly impressed with Gyokeres until I watched him batter City. He’s just a monster. I like relentless people. Adebayor was relentless. Robin van Persie was relentless. So was Thierry Henry. Kai is good, but relentless in pursuit of goals? It’s not in his DNA unfortunately.

I’m excited about this signing. A decision was made. It was a big one. It represents a new era. Let’s see what he can do. United away for his first Premier League game? Delicious. Cannot wait.
