Trio of Red Sox Make Top MLB Prospects List
A trio of players in the Red Sox minor league system have made Keith Law’s latest top 60 MLB prospects list.
Law is a senior baseball writer for The Athletic.
The highest-ranked prospect is shortstop Franklin Arias, who comes in at No. 9 on the list.
After recording nine home runs, 54 RBIs, 35 stolen bases and a .309/.409/.487 slash line in 87 games between the FCL Red Sox and Single-A Salem Red Sox in 2024, the 19-year-old Venezuelan has split his at-bats between Salem and the Greenville Drive of the South Atlantic League in 2025. Arias has four home runs, 45 RBIs and nine steals with a .288/.339/.396 slash line over 323 at-bats covering 78 contests this year.
Law wrote in his analysis that the right-hander has “All-Star upside.”
Outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia is 46th in the rankings.
Garcia is presumably the closest to making the majors, as he’s in his fifth year in the minor leagues and first with Triple-A Worcester. “The Password” was promoted to Worcester in mid-May and is tied for the team lead with 11 home runs, despite playing in just 44 games.
Pitcher Kyson Witherspoon is the lowest ranked of the three, ranking 54th on the list. Witherspoon is also the newest member of the organization, however, as the Red Sox selected the right-hander out of the University of Oklahoma with the 15th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.
The Red Sox inked the 20-year-old to a $5 million signing bonus on Sunday.
Law touted Witherspoon as “uber-athletic.”
“Witherspoon was the top right-handed pitcher on my draft board this year, as the uber-athletic Oklahoma pitcher held 95+ deep into games and worked with a five-pitch mix that should end up with at least three above-average weapons,” he wrote. “His delivery features an unusual movement after separation where he brings his hand almost straight down, described to me by one evaluator as a ‘waggle.’ It hasn’t inhibited his ability to repeat the delivery or throw strikes. I see at least a mid-rotation starter here, and his athleticism and easy velocity point to the potential for even more.”
