Longtime College Football Announcer Takes Shot at Jimmy Kimmel

0 3

The late night television space is set to undergo serious change over the next few months, but one notable college football announcer believes more change is necessary.

This week, CBS announced that it would be ending "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" next May. Colbert's show was strong ratings-wise, but changes in audience habits as a whole aren't positive for late-night television. Many younger viewers aren't watching linear television, and therefore aren't as interested in the classic format.

"It's not just the end of our show, but it's the end of 'The Late Show' on CBS," Colbert said in reaction to the show's imminent end.

"I'm not being replaced. This is all just going away. And I do want to say ... that the folks at CBS have been great partners. I'm so grateful to the Tiffany Network for giving me this chair and this beautiful theater to call home. And of course I'm grateful to you, the audience, who have joined us every night."

Many fans were sad to see Colbert's show come to an end, but others expressed a different opinion, like longtime college football announcer Tim Brando.

"Long overdue imo. I enjoyed David Letterman as much as anyone but towards the end he became politically pompous and Colbert who was actually funny once on the Daily Show was totally unwatchable when he took over The Late Show," Brando said on X.

He then turned his attention to another late-night host, and he didn't mince words.

"Jimmy Kimmel another once funny guy is disgusting too!"

Some fans online disagreed with Brando's opinions on the late-night hosts, and cited his perceived allegiances to a particular side of the political aisle. Brando explained that any fan who would think less of him for his political views is a fan he'd rather not have.

"See ya then…if that’s all it takes to unravel your opinion of me as a human being and sportscaster? That’s shallow," he said.

Colbert and Kimmel have been friends for years, and Kimmel showed support for his fellow host on social media this week.

"Love you Stephen," Kimmel said.

We'll see if - unlike Colbert - Kimmel's show can survive the changing landscape of late-night television.
