Aston Villa & Tottenham in race to sign Man Utd star, Red Devils could now sell for £40m - report
Manchester United could offload Alejandro Garnacho for £40 million amid interest from Chelsea, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, according to The Telegraph.
The Argentina international had a relatively good season with the Red Devils. He made 21 goal contributions from 58 appearances across all competitions.
Despite this, he is expected to head for the exit door, having fallen out with manager Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese tactician has told him to find a new club this summer.
The Telegraph now report that the Red Devils initially valued their graduate at £60m to £70m, and are open to taking a financial hit to sanction his sale in the coming weeks.
Chelsea, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are among clubs monitoring him. The player’s suitors believe the 21-year-old could be prised away for just £40m from United.
There is also interest from overseas, but Garnacho’s preference is to remain in the Premier League.
Man Utd likely to part ways with Garnacho for reduced fee
The attacker had a public fallout with Amorim towards the end of last season. It was probably the reason behind his axe from the starting line-up for the Europa League final against Tottenham.
The Argentine was also not part of the matchday squad for the final Premier League game of the campaign versus Villa. Garnacho has now been excluded from the first-team training group.
It is quite clear that Amorim does not see him as part of the club’s plans.
Following the significant investment in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to bolster the attack, Garnacho’s sale would provide pure profit under the Profit and Sustainability Rules.
With clubs aware of United’s desire to part ways with Garnacho, it is unlikely that they will receive a high premium fee. £40m seems a reasonably good figure at the current point.
United would ideally prefer to send him abroad instead of Chelsea, Villa or Spurs, who could be direct contenders for the Champions League positions during the 2025/26 season.
However, they may have no choice but to accept proposals from the trio, considering there are not many clubs overseas that could be willing to meet the new valuation for Garnacho.
