Why Juventus spent 111m this summer for only one new player
Although Cristiano Giuntoli is no longer there, his transfer strategy means Juventus have spent €111m this summer, despite only signing Jonathan David as a free agent.
The Bianconeri fired Giuntoli at the end of the season, largely due to the disappointment of his decisions over the last couple of years.
That includes a series of signings that had payment schedules spread out over six or 12 months, which are only now coming out of the coffers.
Juventus delayed payments now active
Michele Di Gregorio arrived a year ago from Monza, on loan at a cost of €4.5m, with an obligation to buy for a further €13.5m.
Pierre Kalulu made the move from Milan in August 2024 for €3.3m, with the option to buy for another €14.3m plus add-ons.
Lloyd Kelly, one of the main reasons why Giuntoli was sacked, came in from Newcastle United in January for €3m on loan, with obligation to buy for €14.5m.
Nico Gonzalez was secured from Fiorentina last summer for €8m on loan, with obligation to buy for another €25m.
Francisco Conceicao was on loan for €7m from Sporting CP and there was no option to buy, so Juventus had to negotiate it with Sporting CP, eventually agreeing on €32m payable over four years.
Their only new signing is a free agent, even though David still didn’t come completely free of charge, because the official statement noted €12.5m payable over three instalments in commissions and other additional costs.
