Deion Sanders Addresses 'Mystery' Health Issue Ahead of Colorado Football Season

0 1

One of the most talked-about players in NFL history, Deion Sanders, quickly became one of the biggest headlines in college football in recent years. He’s helped turn around the Colorado Buffaloes football program, but heading into his third season at the helm in Boulder, he’s dealing with something off the football field.

Sanders, 57, has yet to return to Colorado ahead of the 2025 college football season, as he's dealing with what People described as a "mystery" illness. The Buffaloes' head coach is not "all the way recovered" and has been sidelined over the past few months.

"You know I’m still going through something,” Sanders told his daughter Shelomi and son Deion Jr. in a video. "...I’m getting better, though, right?" Sanders asked Shelomi.

Sanders, who led Colorado to a 9-4 record last year, suffered an unspecified medical issue in June and has remained in Texas while recovering.

While Sanders has dealt with blood clots in his legs and feet previously, his son, Deion Jr., told Phillip Dukes on a podcast late last week that they're heading "back to Colorado next week."

"It's a blessing. It's been a long journey, a long road and soon everybody will know the reason I haven't left this house this summer. ... Everyone will know in the next few weeks or so," Deion Jr. said, per People.

While the man known as "Prime Time" may not be in Colorado at the moment, it appears the plan for his return soon remains intact.

After Colorado posted a 4-8, they began 2024 ranked No. 16 and finished the season as the No. 25-ranked team in the nation. The nine victories last year were the school's most since 2016, when they won 10 games. Before that, the Buffaloes hadn't matched nine wins since 2002.
