“Not closing doors” – Fabrizio Romano drops intriguing Alexander Isak to Liverpool transfer hint
Fabrizio Romano has provided some insight into Alexander Isak’s thinking amid transfer interest from Liverpool this summer.
Speaking on his official YouTube channel, Romano explained that Liverpool are now pushing ahead with a move to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.
However, Newcastle front-man Isak was also a target for the Reds, and it seems the Sweden international is remaining calm about the situation.
Even if Liverpool will probably find a deal for Ekitike more realistic as Newcastle surely won’t want to sell Isak to a Premier League rival, it seems the player himself is not closing the doors to a possible move to Anfield.
Alexander Isak open to Liverpool transfer
Discussing Isak’s mood during all this, Romano said: “From what I’m hearing, Alexander Isak is very calm.
“He knows very well that Newcastle want to keep him and he knows that Newcastle want to offer him a really important contract.
“At the same time, he knows that Liverpool would offer not just important money but an ambitious project, too.
“So Alexander Isak is not closing doors to this possibility and Liverpool were never going to make club-to-club contact without a feeling that the player would be open to the idea of a move.”
Should Liverpool sign Isak or Ekitike?
One imagines most Liverpool fans would prefer the Premier League-proven Isak over Ekitike, who is younger and who hasn’t yet played in England.
Still, how do the two players compare? See below as Isak clearly looks like the more clinical goal-scorer, but it’s also fair to say that Ekitike is a really well-rounded player who could offer a lot to Arne Slot’s side…
Again, it’s important to remember that we’ve already seen Isak proving that he can do this week in, week out against top Premier League clubs, whereas it remains to be seen how Ekitike might settle in England.
It can be a big risk signing players from weaker leagues, as we saw with Darwin Nunez’s struggles at LFC since his move from Benfica a few years ago.
The Uruguay international was prolific in Portugal, but now needs replacing after an underwhelming spell on Merseyside.
