MLB Trade Rumors: Speculated Red Sox Target ‘Unlikely To Be Moved’

With Major League Baseball’s All-Star break soon coming to an end, the Boston Red Sox will return to the field on Friday against the Chicago Cubs, riding a 10-game winning streak and renewed incentive to become buyers before the July 31 trade deadline.

With clear needs at first base, starting pitching, and bullpen, the Red Sox have already been connected to numerous impact players rumored to be available via trade over the last few weeks. And with the business of baseball ready to get back into full swing after a short break, the Red Sox and rival ballclubs are prepared for the unpredictable nature and intrigue that makes MLB’s trade deadline one of the most anticipated days on the league calendar.

Recent rumors have connected the Red Sox to Minnesota Twins All-Star Joe Ryan. The 29-year-old right-hander is in the midst of a career season with a record of 9-4 and a 2.72 ERA in 18 starts this season.

While Ryan’s name has become popular in trade rumors, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand is not convinced the Twins’ hurler will be moved during the trade deadline this year. In a recent article, Feinsand revealed that his sources believe Ryan and another potential Red Sox target are expected to stay put when all is said and done.

“Milwaukee’s Freddy Peralta and Minnesota’s Joe Ryan have also been floated as possible trade chips, though sources said the two right-handers are unlikely to be moved before the deadline,” wrote Feinsand.

The Red Sox have been rumored to be in the market for starting pitching after losing Hunter Dobbins and Kutter Crawford to season-ending injuries, and Walker Buehler’s spot in the rotation has recently been in question after showing signs of regression throughout the summer. While it’s also not uncommon for teams to drive up the asking price for players at the deadline, it appears the Red Sox will have to look elsewhere for rotation help over the next few weeks.
