Red Sox Surge In Latest MLB Power Rankings Amid 10-Game Winning Streak

So close, yet so far. The Boston Red Sox surged in the latest MLB power rankings, thanks to their season-high 10-game winning streak. But manager Alex Cora and company still can’t crack the top 10, coming in at. No. 11.

Still, that’s up five spots from No. 16, where the Red Sox sat in the previous ranking.

“The Red Sox have been excited about their young hitters for many moons at this point, but they couldn’t have asked for a better time for them to break through than in the immediate weeks after trading Rafael Devers. Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu, Jarren Duran, Marcelo Mayer and Roman Anthony, all hitting like crazy, all in their 20s, all at the perfect moment,” MLB.com’s Will Leitch wrote Wednesday.

A pair of American League East rivals rank ahead of the Red Sox. The first-place Toronto Blue Jays are holding steady at No. 6 and the New York Yankees inched up one spot to No. 9.

The top-ranked club in the American League is the Detroit Tigers, who remain in the top spot overall. The Chicago Cubs are No. 2 and the Los Angeles Dodgers are No. 3. The Houston Astros (No. 4) and New York Mets (No. 5) round out the top five.

As for the Red Sox, they will go for their 11th straight win on Friday when they open a three-game series at Wrigley Field.

Taking a deeper look at Boston’s second-half schedule show a number of challenges following the All-Star break.

After visiting the National League Central-leading Cubs, the Red Sox visit the Philadelphia Phillies, who sit in first place in the NL East. That’s followed by a three-game series at Fenway Park against the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers.
